We are thankful for the many opportunities there are at SJR to express our love for God in worship.
A ‘loop’ system, large print Bibles, service books and hymn books, and ear defenders are available for those who need them. After our services refreshments are served to extend our fellowship and so we can get to know each other better.
All are welcome to all of our services, whatever your age, or your experience of faith, so have a look at our different services – there really is something for everyone!
Encounter worship at 9:30am

We believe this service enables us to encounter God and each other in a relaxed, less formal way. Broadly the pattern of worship is praise and prayer led by the Worship Band, teaching, including a Bible reading and a sermon, and an opportunity to respond, which can take many forms. Worship is enriched by the use of AV. We have Children’s Church at this service for children of primary school age. There is a creche facility in Room 2 for your little ones. Prayer ministry is available during and after this service.
This service includes sharing in Holy Communion once a month.
Traditional morning worship at 11am
In this service we worship God in a more traditional way. Music is accompanied by the organ. There is a more formal style to the shape of the service with a sermon, hymns and prayers.
This service includes sharing in Holy Communion once a month.
Evening worship at 6pm – except the 2nd Sunday of the month
Evening worship is mostly traditional in nature and the music is accompanied by the organ. Evening worship provides the space to be more reflective, where the Word can be explored in an unhurried way.
It includes sharing in Holy Communion once a month.
New Song Café – 2nd Sunday of the month at 7pm

These evenings are led by either our ‘House Band’ or guest worship bands from other churches in Southampton. They are opportunities for people across the city and beyond to come together to worship our amazing God through song…and cake! Worship is enriched by the use of lighting effects and haze. Prayer ministry is available during and after this service.
New Song Connect – 4th Sunday of the month at 7:30pm

We meet in the cafe area around tables. This is a quieter service where we can connect a little more deeply with the themes introduced at New Song Café through contemporary music, teaching, reflection and prayer. Prayer ministry is available during and after this service.
Midweek services
On the first Wednesday of each month there is a thirty-minute reflective service at noon.
These services are held weekly during Advent and Lent.
Big Church Breakfast (BCB) – 10am
Around four times a year we join together to worship in a different style, enjoying ‘Big Church Breakfast’. We start with breakfast together from 9:45am then there’s the opportunity to explore the morning’s theme with a choice of activities. These have included craft, discussion groups, videos, storytelling, prayer…and many more! There’s something for everyone here! The last half hour, around 11-11:30 we come back together to conclude worship in the worship area.
Holy Communion
This is shared at each of our weekly services once a month.
There are many names given to the celebration of Jesus’ last meal with his friends, such as ‘Mass’, ‘Eucharist’, ‘The Lord’s Supper’ or ‘Holy Communion’. The bread and the wine represent Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. It may be helpful for you to know that at SJR, Holy Communion is shared using gluten-free bread and non-alcoholic wine.
You do not have to be a Church Member or to have been confirmed to take communion. The invitation is ‘to all who love the Lord Jesus or who seek to love Him more’.
